Sierra Leone: Youths, police in another standoff

There has been another standoff between some angry youths and police in Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown.

A police officer is alleged to have opened fire among a group of youths on a Street in Freetown, wounding four of them.

The officer in question, Sergeant AbdulRahman Kamara was said to have gone to the area with four of his colleagues to investigate the alleged beating of a Soldier by youths, when the incident took place.

WADR’s Freetown correspondent Mohamed Konneh reports that the latest incident comes after a series of strains in relations between the police and the public, mainly youths.

Recently, Sierra Leone's authorities announced that nearly 1,030 police officers were sacked and suspended for various “professional misconduct”.

They said the action came after a series of investigations.
